Known as Stevie, he was barrel-chested and had a nice head of hair. He was a good step-grandfather to Kay and especially to Fredda, for whom he was like a father. He died on his 72nd birthday. That morning he got up to go to work, got dressed in his starched and ironed khakis, and was signing a form to get his social security benefits while he was working (he had just become eligible that birthday), when he died.
Mattie met Stevie at Forest Park in Ft. Worth - he would take his kids there.
